What better way to end the 2011 F1 season, and welcome in our new site, than by starting your own F1 Team. No, I’m not high on the fumes of the Brazil GP's burnt rubber, I’m simply referring to the app that every F1 fan should have.

Grand Prix Story for iPhone gives you the power to be the next Christian Horner. You can choose the type of car you race, the perfect driver(s) and even update and install a selection of parts as you create your F1 team. So, now that it’s possible for any Tom, Dick or Harry to manage a multimillion dollar team, I’ve created a quick “how-to” to make sure you get the most from this opportunity.
Step 1 – Choose a memorable Team Name
You’ve got three choices when it comes to naming your team. Firstly, you can let your sponsor rule the roost with the ultimate product placement, “like a virgin”. Secondly, you could simply use your surname and hope it sounds as cool as Prost, Stewart or Cooper. Lastly, you could choose from the list of racing slang and simply pick out a great sounding title, like Chicane GP or Burnt Rubber Racing. Admittedly, the last option won’t stand the test of time, but then neither did Arrows and they were a real team, apparently.
Step 2 – Choose a type of car
One thing that makes this app even better than owning a real life F1 team, if that was at all possible, is that you can select the type of car you race. From Aero F1 style racers to dragsters and even a giant duck, Grand Prix story really does have an option for everyone. I’d recommend going with the Aero or Wing car. They look the most like F1 racers, plus they are the fastest.
Step 3 – Choose your team colors
A recent article in F1 Magazine showcased all the Fashion Disasters of the F1 world, and I’m not talking about Louis Hamilton’s Girlfriend. Several teams over the years have tried using bright pinks, half naked ladies and even the planet as a color scheme. Thankfully, GP story sticks to a set number of patterns that lovingly include an Ayrton Senna style McLaren and a Sebastian Vettel style Red Bull.
Step 4 – Higher a World Champion
Plus, as you progress, you’ll also be able to hire mechanics and a no. 2 driver. This way you can dominate on the grid and develop cars and parts faster.
Step 5 – Get a sponsor
Once you win a race, you’ll get the attention of a few sponsors. Meet their targets and they’ll unlock parts for you, show you special training techniques to boost a driver’s skill and recommend you to their richer friends. They also offer a monetary reward for winning races, so be sure to take a look at them closely to find the most generous ones.
Step 6 – Race the world and win the Championship
Now that you’ve sorted your name, color and driver, the championship awaits. You’ll start of as a new company with minimal funds and a set number of places in the team. Make sure to get as many races in as you can to train your driver and bring home the bacon. No one goes into F1 and becomes champion in a year. As long as you make it within 14, you'll get a decent score in the game.
Don’t worry if you don’t manager to make it, however, as the game continues after your 14th year. Your score won’t count anymore, but you can still develop, race, hire and win as many times as you like.
Always remember that you can change your team color, driver, mechanics and car at any point during the game. You can also develop a cars performance to unlock upgrades and new rides. The more you train, race and develop the better you team gets. So get started early.
Conclusion
As a huge F1 fan, I really like this game. It’s one that I've not been able to put down for weeks. And if you are anything like me, it’s exactly what you need to take the edge of the race withdrawal until the 2012 season starts. Plus, with multiple game slots and a vast amount of tracks, drivers and cars, it’s one app you won’t regret buying.
